Wonder Woman & Superman Will Share the Same Tragic Fate (& They Hate It)
Contains spoilers for Knight Terrors: Wonder Woman #2. Unfortunately, Wonder Woman and Superman are both destined to share a not-so-joyful fate. As she faces her greatest fears, Diana discovers a stunning future for herself and the Man of Steel.In Knight Terrors: Wonder Woman #2 by Josie Campbell and Juan Ferreyra, Diana has been consumed by a twisted doppelganger who torments the hero with horrifying visions. The Medusa-like Wonder Woman taunts her counterpart, reminding Diana that for all her bluster about being peaceful, the Princess of Themyscira is a harbinger of war and violence. Wonder Woman is bombarded with images of battles as the evil copycat continues mocking Diana’s pain.
Wonder Woman fights back, insisting that the vision isn’t true and she isn’t a bloodthirsty conqueror. But the twisted Diana goes further, reminding Wonder Woman that she has the blood of Zeus running through her veins. The villain tells Diana that as a demigod, she’ll have no choice but to watch as everyone she loves dies. From her allies from Man’s World to the Amazons, Diana sees everyone she loves dead as her haunting mirror image gloats that this is Wonder Woman’s ultimate fate.
Wonder Woman Will Outlive Her Loved Ones
The DC Universe has been hit hard by an unexpected but incredibly powerful foe. After gaining power from the Lazarus Resin Storm on the Lazarus planet, a metahuman named Insomnia sent forth powerful sleep spells that engulfed nearly every hero and villain on Earth. Wonder Woman also fell victim to the Nightmare Wave, where she encountered the Sleepless Knights, one of the Insomnia foot soldiers. Like Superman and Batman, Wonder Woman was also attacked by evil clones, bringing out Diana’s biggest and darkest fears. Speaking of Superman, Clarke’s encounter with the Insomniac Knight instilled in Diana a sympathetic terror. Superman battled a being called the Super Reaper, tormenting the heroes that the real reason Clark was known as “The Man of Tomorrow” was because Superman was destined to outlive those he loved. Much like Wonder Woman, Superman fears that he is helpless and has no choice but to watch his family and friends die. Unfortunately for them, it almost certainly will. With many glimpses into the future, two heroes live long after everyone else is dead, leaving the Earth alone to mourn.
Superman and Wonder Woman Will Only Have Each Other
If Wonder Woman and Superman can at least have each other after everyone else is dead, you’d think that would be a ray of hope. But despite their bond, the loss they share will outweigh all others. Clark and Diana both have people who couldn’t bear the death of family, friends and loved ones. Watching the rest of the world grow old and die is an experience no one should be forced to, but for two of the DC Universe’s greatest icons, a hellish future is set.
