Power Rangers Got Dark New Armor By Sacrificing Their 90s Powers

Power Rangers Got Dark New Armor By Sacrificing Their 90s Powers

It used to be that a Power Ranger without their Power Coin was not much of a force for good, but in the alternate Power Rangers reality known as the World of the Coinless, Rangers are able to function near the level of their “coined” colleagues. When the Coinless have the chance to reclaim their Power Coins in Anthony Burch and Simone Ragazzoni’s Power Rangers: Lord Drakkon – New Dawn #3, some question the need for their power coins at all. Lord Drakkon, the World of the Coinless timeline’s version of iconic Power Ranger Tommy Oliver, is seemingly dead, leaving a power vacuum in this reality, giving the surviving Rangers an opportunity to resurrect the original team. However, Zack and Trini, leaders of the Coinless resistance since Drakkon’s rise, reject their Power Rings. They opt instead to share the Rings’ energy to arm and protect the Coinless rebels.

Drakkon’s Sinister Use of the Power Coins

Tommy Oliver’s descent into evil and ascent to power in Power Rangers: Lord Drakkon – New Dawn illustrates how the World of the Coinless deviates from the official Power Rangers storyline. Tommy, now known as Drakkon, quickly overcame Rita Repulsa, the iconic villain, and started to establish his dominance. Instead of destroying the Power Coins held by the Rangers, Drakkon used their energy to pursue his aspirations for dominance. In this fashion, he used the Power Coins to dilute their energy, making it impossible for anybody to surpass him. Moreover, it serves as a source of energy for the Rangers, his recently formed army.

Sharing the Power Coins Limits Power Rangers’ Abilities

The New Dawn miniseries demonstrates how Zack and Trini managed to organize a respectable opposition to Drakkon’s authority in spite of not having access to their abilities or the Morphin’ Grid. But now that Drakkon is no longer alive, Zack, Trini, Scott, and Kimberly, the remaining Rangers, receive the Power Coins that he utilized. Zack and Trini oppose Scott’s request to use his coin to restore his Red Ranger skills, claiming that since things have changed, everyone should have access to the Morphin’ Grid. Ultimately, Zack and Trini’s argument wins over Kimberly and Scott. As a result of their choice, the former Power Rangers form a new, cohesive resistance group.
