Marvel Just Made Doctor Strange’s Sorcerer Supreme Title Meaningless

Marvel just made Doctor Strange’s title “Sorcerer Supreme” meaningless. Sorcerer Supremes are the most powerful magic users in their respective dimensions, and Doctor Strange has held that title multiple times. It’s a great honor to be the Sorcerer’s Supreme, but in Doctor His Strange 9, fans get new insight into Strange and Wong’s relationship, and also learn about his title as the Sorcerer’s Supreme. It also sheds new light. Doctor Strange 9 is written by Jed MacKay and drawn by Pasqual Ferry. Wong, who has joined the new incarnation of WAND, a magical equivalent of SHIELD, is working with his fellow agents to discover a way to stop the evil General Strange. A flustered Pandora tells Wong his plan is nuts, and Strange is nuts as well. Wong implores Pandora to humor him, as he has “spent most of [his] adult life thinking of ways to get Stephen Strange out of the situations he puts himself in.” Meanwhile, General Strange is delivering a serious beating to Doctor Strange, and the issue ends with Wong and WAND arriving to help.

General Strange is Pushing Doctor Strange to His Breaking Point

Sorcerer Supreme

Wong’s intervention came just in time as General Strange was testing Doctor Strange. General Strange is a dark and corrupt version of the Sorcerer Supreme, created as a result of the 5000 year war between the Vishanti and the Ashen Combine. The Vishanti forced Strange to fight in the war, which further corrupted him and created the villainous General Strange. At the end of the war, General Strange was separated from Stephen and imprisoned. General Strange recently escaped, keeping Steven under surveillance, forcing Won and Wand to intervene.

Wong Is the Real MVP of the Doctor Strange Mythos

9

As Earth’s greatest sorcerer, Doctor Strange has been responsible for fighting off many magical threats, but General Strange is just the latest in a long line of villains who have tested Stephen’s abilities. However, General Strange tricks Stephen and attacks him with the Mysterium, cutting him off from all sources of magic. Fortunately, Wong and Calvary arrive and are sure to turn the tide of the battle. Wong is one of Doctor Strange’s oldest friends, starting out as his “servant” but over time their friendship deepens and Strange greatly respects Wong. Now, McKay and Ferry have provided new insight into Strange and Wong’s relationship. The scene between Pandora and Wong was played for fun, but the truth is that Wong has rescued Strange from the fire many times. Wong knows this, and deep down Doctor Strange knows it too. Although Doctor Strange is often credited with saving the world as the Sorcerer Supreme, Wong almost always plays a major role in his plans, usually saving Strange’s life. In this form, the title of Sorcerer Supreme becomes virtually meaningless, as Wong continually assists in rescuing Doctor Strange.
