Marvel Alters a Significant Element of Daredevil Prior to His Series Debut
Matt Murdock will be experiencing a major change ahead of his upcoming MCU show Daredevil: Born Again. As seen in the brand-new trailer for Marvel’s Echo, Daredevil is confirmed to appear in the upcoming show set to release January 10th. However, this will come with a significant change compared to his last appearance in Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Played by actor Charlie Cox, Matt Murdock first appeared in Netflix’s Daredevil which ran for three seasons but was later canceled with the end of Marvel Television thanks to the emergence of Disney+. However, Murdock did return as Peter Parker’s lawyer in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home as well in 2022’s She-Hulk: Attorney where he returned as Daredevil, teaming up with Jennifer Walters (while also becoming a romantic interest). However, Daredevil’s next appearance in Echo is coming with an exciting change, one that will likely continue heading into his rebooted series Daredevil: Born Again.
Daredevil Already Has A New Costume In The MCU

In Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Daredevil returned to the MCU wearing a brand-new costume. Resembling Daredevil’s very first costume in the original comics, the new suit was predominantly yellow with red being a secondary color. This was opposed to more well-known all red costume he wore in his Netflix show and most frequently on the page. Having been designed by LA fashion designer Luke Jacobson specializing in super-suits, Daredevil’s new suit helped explained Murdock’s presence on the West Coast as opposed to New York and Hell’s Kitchen. Likewise, representing Luke in court also brought him in contact with Jennifer Walters, herself a lawyer by day as well. However, it looks as though Daredevil will be returning to his all red suit in Marvel’s Echo. There’s a brief shot in the trailer where Murdock is seen fighting the titular Maya Lopez, most likely due to her connection with Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin (Vincent D’onofrio), Murdock’s greatest enemy. As such, it certainly looks as though the yellow and red suit was simply a one-off for the MCU.
Why Daredevil Is Wearing A Different Suit In Marvel’s Echo Show

It’s worth noting that Echo appears to be a very different series from the comedy series She-Hulk. As seen in the Marvel movie Hawkeye, it shows Maya Lopez’s dark backstory and her quest for revenge against Fisk, who orchestrated her father’s death. In Echo looks to be quite brutal as Maya fights to break free of The Kingpin’s influence, no longer wanting to be an echo of Fisk himself. As such, it makes sense that Daredevil is returning to his more serious and toned-done costume with his upcoming MCU appearance. As evidenced by the trailer, it certainly seems as though Echo will be the closet MCU project resembling the more mature and violent Netflix shows. To that end, it’s to Marvel Studios’ benefit to put Murdock back in his classic threads, especially considering how popular the Netflix show was along with both Cox and D’onofrio reprising their roles. While it was a nice homage to his first appearance in the comics in light of Daredevil’s big return to the MCU, the yellow suit is too bright and flashy. Going back to the red makes perfect sense considering Echo’s more intense tone (releasing as Marvel Studios’ first TV-MA project).
Will Daredevil Get Another New Suit Before His Show Born Again?

It remains to be seen whether Matt Murdock will face another lawsuit in Daredevil: Born Again, but it’s certainly a possibility in the upcoming MCU reboot series. There’s a case to be made for maintaining Daredevil’s classic and hugely popular look seen in his previous Netflix shows. However, Marvel Studios has a track record (although it probably shouldn’t) of changing costumes before new appearances. Ms. Marvel’s costume in the MCU is a prime example of why you shouldn’t tinker with your costume just for a future appearance. The costumes created for her own Ms. Marvel series had much more narrative significance and comic book accuracy than the suits she wears in Marvel. With this in mind, it is hoped that Daredevil’s suit will not change again after “Echo” just for new projects. Perhaps the suit itself could keep its bright red color while being upgraded for Daredevil: Born Again, giving Murdock an evolution that isn’t too outlandish.
