Kevin Feige Hints Marvel Character Has Been A Skrull Longer Than You Think
Pre-reveal for Secret Invasion Episode 4. Kevin Feige suggested that Rhodey could have been a Skrull in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for much longer. The biggest Skrull theory in the Secret Invasion is finally proven in episode 4, “Beloved”, with the reveal that Rhodey is actually a female Skrull in disguise. The series doesn’t delve into the plot, but Feige offers new clues as to when Iron Man’s best friend was replaced. Speaking to Marvel.com, the boss of Marvel Studios breaks down Rhodey’s revelation. In episode 4 of Secret Invasion, fans finally get to see the true form of the female Skrull, who took on the identity of the Avenger as she showered. The show doesn’t provide any indication of when Rhodey may have fired, but Feige suggests he’s been out for longer than many realize. “We love the idea of fans going back and watching some of Rhodey’s other appearances and realizing it wasn’t him.”
What Happened To The Real Rhodey?

Since Rhodey’s revelation about the Skrulls is just one of the few twists in Secret Invasion Episode 4, which also includes the heartbreaking death of Talos, it isn’t able to really explore what it means for the bigger MCU. Considering what has been shown about Gravik and his followers’ scheme, however, it’s safe to say that the real Rhodey was also abducted and replaced by a shape-shifting alien. When and how exactly are uncertain at this point, but Feige’s comment makes it seem like he may have been replaced as far back as the Infinity Saga.
For context, Rhodey only appeared in another MCU Multiverse Saga project before the Secret Invasion. He made a brief appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where he talked to Sam Wilson about the legacy of Captain America’s shield. If Feige’s teasing is to be believed, it’s likely that Rhodey on the 2021 show has been replaced with a Skrull. That means the real person has been imprisoned for years now, which has to do with the character’s political connections, not to mention his role in the Avengers.
That being said, it’s worth noting that Rhodey in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier acts and talks like his old self. Secret Invasion’s version is unusually brutal and rough, which initially raised suspicions among fans. Additionally, Feige and Marvel Studios also need to re-evaluate this creative decision going forward, as casting him as a Skrull from as old as the Infinity Saga would have major story ramifications, including belittlement. his friendship with Iron Man.
