Marvel Studios Has Changed Its Theme For The First Time After 4 Movies & Shows
This article contains SPOILERS for Loki Season 2, Episode 3 Loki Season 2 changes the MCU’s traditional opening fanfare music, a rarity for the cinematic universe over the years. Continuing the trend of last seen four movies and shows in the past, the new MCU fanfare featured in Loki season 2, episode 3 fits the context of this particular episode very well. It also fits quite well with the overall time travel theme of the series. As seen in Loki season 2, episode 3, the whereabouts of Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes were revealed. Following the posthumous instructions of Jonathan Majors’ He Who Remains, who died in season 1 of Loki, the former TVA judge travels to a branching timeline in the past: Chicago in the late 19th century. As a result, the original fanfare of the MCU logo was changed to match the episode’s predominant time setting: As seen at the beginning of the episode, the Michael Giacchino-composed theme has been altered (likely by Loki composer Natalie Holt), becoming a ragtime tune to better fit the early Chicago setting in the year 1893 (the particular year also being the episode’s title).
The Last Time Marvel Changed Its Theme Tune Was Werewolf By Night
The last time the MCU fanfare was changed was about a year ago. As seen in early 2022’s Werewolf by Night, the musical fanfare is created from a horror movie classic, complete with black-and-white visuals and electric sparks on the logo. However, this new version was composed by Michael Giacchino himself, who also made his directorial debut with the horror-filled Marvel Special Present. Since the entire special’s presentation is in black and white, it makes perfect sense to establish the mood and feeling from the start with classic horror music. It also helps make the MCU project extremely different. After all, changing the opening logo and the fanfare that has been seen countless times before certainly helped the whole project feel fresh and new.
Marvel’s New Tune In Loki Season 2, Episode 3 Meaning Explained
Change the opening logo again and the fanfare achieved the same thing with Loki season 2, episode 3. Given that the episode takes place almost entirely in the 18000s, the marching band’s ragtime performance is pitch-perfect and quite clever. Changing the classic MCU trope by making it even more classic will certainly help viewers understand the claustrophobic new time setting while also bringing excitement, creating a new spin on the traditionally expected opening for MCU projects.
