13 Justice League Villains Cooler Than the Heroes Who Fight Them
The Justice League is made up of some of the most powerful heroes in the DC Universe. From speed enthusiasts to aliens, they have a lot of power to help protect the Earth from harm. But for all the heroes of the DCU, there are plenty of villains who want to harm the world. Not only are there more villains, but many of them have elements that make them much cooler than the heroes they fight. This could be due to their power, their gimmick, or simply the outfit they wear. Whatever the reason, there are some villains far cooler than the Justice League heroes they battle. Read on to find out these 13 villains.
Gentleman Ghost
One of Hawkman’s oldest enemies, Jim Craddock, aka Gentleman Ghost was originally a charlatan criminal who pretended to be a ghost. He was later revamped to be an actual ghost who had a feud with the Hawks going back decades. In addition to being a dapper fellow, Gentleman Ghost wields an array of spectral weapons, such as pistols or daggers and has a limited degree of magic, making him a powerful foe.
Folded Man
The Flash is used to fight the bad guys with terrible power and equipment. The Folded Man is one of Scarlet Speedster’s strangest thieves as Edwin Gauss wears a costume that can allow him access to other dimensions. By transferring to the fourth dimension, Folded Man surpasses Flash’s speed by attacking him on a level the hero can’t even sense. It’s a shame he doesn’t get more respect because Folded Man is arguably the Flash’s most dangerous villain.
Dwarfstar
Atom is the most knowledgeable in the DC Universe when it comes to miniaturization technology. Sylbert Rundine is basically Atomic if he’s a full-fledged psycho. After obtaining the Biobelt, he became a Dwarfstar, Ryan Choi’s arch-nemesis. Rundine was already a serial killer before he got his hands on his miniaturization technology. After gaining the ability to shrink at will, Dwarfstar became one of the most underrated but feared super criminals.
Giganta
Wonder Woman regularly fights gods and other mythological creatures. However, her most notable adversary Giganta is merely a normal woman, albeit one who can grow to the size of a skyscraper. Doris Zeul’s only real power is that she’s able to grow hundreds of times her normal size. But when Giganta is fully-grown, she can easily take on the likes of Wonder Woman or any other Amazon with little to no effort.
Black Hand
Black Hand was never one of Green Lantern’s best enemies. That is until he was given a dark makeover during Geoff John’s epic Green Lantern saga. William Hand was reinvented as a death-obsessed monster who was later revealed to be the avatar of the Black Lantern Corps. Black Hand was instrumental in leading the Black Lanterns’ attack on the DC Universe and nearly succeeded in killing the DC Universe for good.
Mr. Nobody
Mr. Nobody was once a literal nobody, a former second-rate villain whose biggest claim to fame was stealing a giant robot. However, an experimental procedure turned Eric Morden into the strange, two-dimensional-looking Mr. Nobody. Nobody is so out of his mind he makes the Joker look rational. But don’t take him for a fool. He’s an expert criminal and once used a painting to steal the entire city of Paris.
Count Vertigo
Green Arrow’s archery skills are superhuman, so how can any of his villains hope to compete? This was not a problem for Count Vertigo, who possessed the ability to cause dizziness and disorientation to others. all Count Vertigo needs to do is trigger his powers and suddenly Oliver Queen is shooting at anything but his nemesis.
Upside-Down Man
Zatanna is used to creepy things in the dark, but Upside-Down Man goes far beyond what she’s used to. Upside-Down Man was born when magic came into existence, and he represents the dark side of all things magic. Upside-Down Man is one of the most powerful magic beings in the DC Universe, and he was able to easily beat heroes as powerful as Swamp Thing. Everything about the villain, from his looks to his methods is positively perturbing.
Black Beetle
The Black Beetle is a scarab-using villain who has faced off against two generations of Blue Beetles, as well as their partner Booster Gold. Black Beetle used her mysterious identity to deceive the heroes and make devastating changes to the timeline of the DC Universe. It was finally revealed that the Black Beetle is actually a Booster Gold variant of the evil Earth-3, a dark yet interesting twist for a hero tasked with keeping the timeline steady.
Black Manta
Aquaman is known as DC’s dumbest hero. But to be fair, it’s hard not to look bad compared to a villain as awesome as Black Manta. David Hyde is a pirate that stalks the seven seas for one reason and one reason alone: To kill Arthur Curry. With his iconic bug-eyed helmet and the occasional Atlantean relic, Black Manta does everything in his power to end his bitter enemy’s life.
Darkseid
Orion and the other New Gods of New Genesis have been at war with Darkseid for years. But the ruler of Apokolips is an unstoppable force that won’t quit until he has the entire universe under his heel. Darkseid has some of the greatest warriors in his army and wields the dreaded Omega Beams, making him one of the most terrifying threats in the entire DCU.
Deathstroke
There are very few heroes that Deathstroke doesn’t clash with. Teen Titans, Nightwing, Batman, Green Arrow, and more have all fought against Slade Wilson at one point or another. And through a combination of planning, strength, and his powerful healing factor, Deathstroke has been able to defeat most, if not all his enemies in battle, including heroes as fast as the Flash.
Black Adam
Though Shazam is the Wizard’s magic Champion, Black Adam was the first to have that honor bestowed upon him. Unlike Billy Batson, Black Adam uses his powers for vengeance rather than justice. Though it’s brought him into conflict with the DC Universe’s heroes, he’s earned the respect and adoration of the people of Kahndaq, who see him as a hero for his actions.
The heroes of the Justice League do a great job keeping the DC Universe safe, but these 13 villains are undoubtedly cooler than their nemeses.
